Ways to Give

Meeting our community’s needs

We are called to be generous to one another, and to the common needs of our faith family.

If you have questions about how to give or what is most needed, please contact our Stewardship Committee through anitaogara@gmail.com or 515-249-4490.

Our basic support:

Tithing

The parish relies on your weekly or monthly gifts to support all our parish life.

Together, we make it possible for our small staff and volunteer leaders to support all our parish liturgies and faith formation. Our tithing also keeps our cathedral, hall and office secure, and heated or cooled for our comfort.

Could you please tell the parish how much you intend to tithe in 2023, and in what way? Thank you!  Download Intention Form for 2023 Tithing

Giving at Mass

Cash gifts are welcome, and a private way to give. If you’d like the parish to know you are giving, ask the parish office for gift envelopes with your name printed on them.

Gifts by check are recorded gratefully in your parish records. If you give more than $250 in a year, you’ll receive a letter of thanks that’s also a receipt for income tax purposes.

Automatic transfers from your bank account

For an easy, automatic way to tithe, you can authorize a monthly transfer from your bank account to St. Ambrose Cathedral. Your gift happens every month, just as you planned. Your steady support is there to help our our parish pay its monthly obligations.

The gift process is similar to automatic bill payment through ACH transfers. You set the amount and the date of the transfer, and you can change your arrangements at any time.  Learn more

Specific purposes

Second collections

At Mass (after Communion) we’re offered opportunities to give for specific needs. For example, in months that contain five Sundays, the weekends’ 5th Sunday collection after Communion enables our St. Vincent de Paul Society or our Refugee Ministry to serve those who ask us for help.

Anytime

You can give to a specific purpose any time, in any way. Please note this purpose with your gift.  For example, to help sponsor our youth to attend World Youth Day, please write “World Youth Day” on the Memo line of your check or on a note attached to your cash gift.

Online giving

Using your credit card

Online gifts to St. Ambrose Cathedral are processed through the Catholic Foundation of Southwest Iowa, which does not charge transaction fees to our parish. Please be sure to choose St. Ambrose Cathedral and direct your gift to:

  • Tithing (support our general parish needs)
  • Poor (helping people in need through the parish)
  • WYD (helping our young adults participate in World Youth Day in Spring 2023)
  • CYC Sponsorship (helping send our youth to summer Catholic Youth Camp)
  • Building (to maintain and secure our cathedral)

Our parish encourages donors to talk with Sue McEntee at Catholic Foundation of Southwest Iowa about making these kinds of gifts. Their mission is to help donors give financial support to Catholic parishes, schools, and organizations within the Diocese of Des Moines. With their help, you can give  easily through the Foundation to St. Ambrose Cathedral. They do not charge fees for helping you or the parish with these gifts. Contact Catholic Foundation
